Emera to open an office at Stephenville airport

Emera Newfoundland and Labrador, the company that will be building a transmission line across a section of Newfoundland, is in the process of opening an office at Stephenville airport.

Jeff Myrick, senior communications advisor with Emera, said the office at Stephenville airport would be dedicated to activities the company will be doing on the west coast of the island.Emera Newfoundland and Labrador Maritime Link Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Emera Newfoundland and Labrador Holdings Inc., has a proposal to design, consult, obtain environmental assessment and regulatory approvals, and develop and operate the Maritime Link Transmission Project between the island of Newfoundland and Cape Breton, N.S.
The Maritime Link is a new high voltage direct current transmission system that includes a number of elements, including subsea cables, shore grounding facilities, two converter stations and adjoining substations, transmission corridors and two transition compounds.In Newfoundland, proposed work includes a new transmission line between Cape Ray and Bottom Brook along an existing transmission corridor, and Bottom Brook to Granite Canal in a combination of existing and new corridors.

The local office will be linked into the company’s main office in St. John’s and contain a conference room for meetings.

The company is preparing for the office to be ready to go when the project moves ahead.
